Miakii, an abstract artist from Ecuador, is the sixth of eight children, three boys and five girls, born of the union of Maria Puertas from Ecuador and biology professor Cezar Guzman of the University of Guayaquil.
Within her family Miakii deeply revered her fine-charactered grandfather, Alfonzo Guzman Silva, as well as Targelia Morales Guzman, her beautiful and soulful grandmother. Targelia was nominated Ecuador’s Mother of the Year three times. Throughout her eventful life she remained a magnificent woman even in the darkest moments and always maintained both her love of humanity and her faith in God.
In this family circle Miakii learned from an early age about the wonders of life as well as its realities. She understood that unchecked ambition with its hope of an auspicious future often interferes with the beauty of knowing the present. For Miakii, this truth came while reflecting on the past and knowing that it was not always what had been anticipated. She learned that while it can be comforting to dream of a positive future, one must always keep in mind that it rarely develops exactly as anticipated.
Miakii is a strong and determined woman whose life has been neither easy nor perfect. She and her siblings were abandoned by their mother when she was nine years old, a loss that is always with her. Still, Miakii never ceases thanking her mother for loving her enough to give her life. When she was twelve her beloved Grandfather Alfonzo died followed by Grandmother Targelia two years later. Theseevents impacted her in many ways and, after graduation, Miakii felt a great need to see the world and to meet people from cultures everywhere. Her art, while rooted in the complex Latin American tradition, is partly a reflection of this choice.
